50 Families Will Have a Merrier Christmas

December 16, 2009

Teachers and staff at Loma Vista Elementary provided presents for the children in 50 families.

It started off by teachers turning in the names of children in their classes who might need extra assistance during the holiday season.  50 student names were turned into the office.

Once the names were turned in the elves at Loma Vista started researching to find out the names of all the siblings in the family.  They wanted every child in the family to get a present.  Each child and all of their siblings’ names were written on a star and that star was hung on “The Christmas Tree of Hope” in the main office.  The staff were very careful to hang the stars so no names could be seen.

Teachers, TAs, cafeteria workers, playground supervisors, custodians, office workers, and all others selected stars from “The Christmas Tree of Hope”.  Once they had the stars they got busy.

Hundreds of presents started pouring into the school all with the children’s names and from Santa written on them.  The Santa’s elves purchased shoes, clothes, toys, or anything they thought the children might need.   Each day the Christmas tree had more and more presents under it.

Finally, parents were contacted to make sure the school had the correct address, the correct number of children, and to find out if someone would be home to receive the delivery.   Each day the administrator, coordinators and others delivered presents until all 50 families had presents for all the children in the family.  This was all done anonymously.  This is what Christmas is all about, giving and caring for others, like the staff at Loma Vista Elementary.
